LOCOMOTIVE SANITIZATION PLAN- AS INFO

18 MAR | BY TANNER GRIFFITT

Subject: Servicing scope of work change effective immediately

Mechanical leaders,

Effective immediately, we are further adjusting the scope of work related to our cab servicing requirements. We are expanding our extended cab cleaning requirements from the controlling locomotive only to also include the first trail unit in the consist. This change is to ensure we are taking proactive steps to protect crews that maybe occupying the trail unit (dead-head crews or other reasons). Our servicing requirements are changing for the controlling locomotive and first trail unit and will be required to be completed on originating outbound consists, as well as during at SML events. The requirement changes are outlined as follows: Each locomotive used as a controlling locomotive and the first trail locomotive in the consist will have a clean cab and cab windows and a clean operative toilet free of offensive odors. 229.139

Note – In addition the following areas are to be cleaned w/ disinfectant spray (same product used to disinfect the toilet surfaces is recommended) on the controlling locomotive AND first trail locomotive only:

a) All door handles (Front door, cab interior door, Engineer rear door, toilet door),
b) Seats and seat controls
c) Engineer control stand
d) Conductor desk
e) Water cooler

Please see attached our updated guidelines for SFS & SML work events.

We continue to work with our Industrial Hygiene team on any changes to our disinfectant spray, and will communicate those changes as soon as we have clarity but at this point, please utilize the spray currently approved and in stock.

Please be clear in your briefings with our Mechanical craft that it is only common use areas (see specific areas above), and we are NOT expected to do a complete wipe down of the cab. Would expect this additional work to be minimal impact to what is already being completed.

If there are questions related to this policy change, don’t hesitate to reach out, but please begin your briefings immediately related to this scope change.

Thanks
Keith
